Crime Survivors Resource Center Stands Strong with the Criminal Justice Legal Foundation to Protect the Rights of Victims in California

California’s criminal justice policies are widely viewed by residents as overly lenient toward offenders and dismissive of victims. The Criminal Justice Legal Foundation (CJLF), led by former Sacramento District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert, positions itself as a counterforce, describing its role as the “Legal Firewall for Public Safety and Victims’ Rights.” The organization is particularly focused on opposing what it calls one of the state’s most dangerous policies: the early release of prisoners originally sentenced to life without the possibility of parole.

To raise awareness, CJLF has created a dedicated website section called “The Faces of The Victims,” which shares stories of families revictimized by these releases and includes a related fact sheet. On Wednesday, the group will hold a press conference to launch a broad coalition of victims’ families and public safety leaders aimed at fighting these early-release practices.
