Soft on Crime Policies Exposed: Victim Advocacy Groups Push Back Against Prison Policy Initiative’s Report

The Prison Policy Initiative’s latest report, “Mass Incarceration: The Whole Pie in 2026” reignites the public debate on criminal justice and PPI’s ongoing war on crime victims. The so-called non-partisan organization, which has long promoted soft-on-crime initiatives like cashless bail and expanded pretrial release programs, lists “10 myths about crime and mass incarceration.” According to an article on the Bail Reform Truth website, these myths are pure propaganda as they are simply talking points that downplay public safety concerns over rising crime.  The PPI myths claim that tough-on-crime measures are ineffective and unfair while they push their own social justice alternatives. These types of reports and arguments have had a tremendous impact when it comes to public resources and funding for victim advocacy groups.  Groups like PPI are deliberately changing the narrative around crime and victimhood and shifting it towards support of criminals.  In the process they have caused our elected officials to shift resources away from actual crime victims’ groups toward support for the accused, undermining decades of progress in victim services and funding.

In the report they outline 10 myths.  The 7th Myth is the one that is the most offensive to crime victims.

Myth #7 Debunked: Crime Victims Do NOT Support Lenient Soft on Crime Policies

The most controversial claim in the report, “Myth #7: Crime victims support long prison sentences,” has drawn sharp rebuke from victim advocacy experts like Patricia Wenskunas of Crime Survivors. The report’s accompanying survey chart, which suggests victims prefer lighter sentences and favor things like cashless bail and alternatives to incarceration over accountability, is pure propaganda designed to advance these activists agendas.Real victim advocates know that these survey results do not reflect the experiences or priorities of actual crime survivors, who continue to demand stronger pretrial detention for dangerous offenders rather than the defunding of victim programs in favor of accused-centered initiatives. Communities are urged to reject this misinformation, educate elected officials, and support authentic victim advocacy groups fighting to protect public safety against misguided cashless bail and pretrial release experiments.  Below is an excerpt from the Bail Reform Truth article as well as a link to the full article…

The Prison Policy Initiative’s War on Crime Victims
Why is PPI on a mission to glorify criminals and diminish the voice of victims of crime

According to its website, The Prison Policy Initiative (PPI) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that produces cutting edge research to expose the broader harm of mass criminalization and then sparks advocacy campaigns to create a more just society.  READ THE FULL ARTICLE HERE>>>
